The studio is a place for fine art and the idea that we can be inventors in any category. The visual perception is our tool and we set out to say something either by what our work represents or by how we came to make it. Each student is unique and should be seen in terms of their gifts and talents.

The standard for being an artist is very high. Artistry comes from an intelligent person that is creative, inventive and imaginative. The idea of an intelligent artist is not a new one and possible was born for the first time during the Italian Renaissance. During the 1400's artists in Florence Italy were part of an important creative movement in Europe. The visual arts where considered essential to the future and was defined as part of the liberal arts tradition going back to Plato. It was comprised of disciplines in musical theory, dialectics, grammar, mathematics, rhetoric and philosophy. New ideas where the subject of the day. Artists experimented with raw materials and new discoveries in science, engineering, architecture and the visual arts. Great artists like Leonardo Da Vinci thought of themselves as men of ideas, rather than a mere manipulator of materials. They were in the company of scholars and poets, men of the world, self controlled, polished solitary geniuses. Artists were originators of thought, processes and design. Their work was not judged by fixed standards of craftsmanship but rather the quality of their concepts.

To be an artist today is a clear path to utilizing all parts of the brain, skills and coordination. It begins with understanding basic principles in positive mental and psychological attitudes in order to educate oneself to what is being observed.
