Learning through osmosis

Osmosis is really a scientific term relating to the flow of fluids through a semi-permeable membrane. With respect to learning, it means a gradual, often unconscious process of assimilation.  As children, we learned many of what we know today through this "unconscious learning process."

Our parents spoke or did things and we learned by simply picking up repeated words and actions. We did not go to school to learn our native language or many of the things we naturally do.

 So it stands to reason that repeating something over and over again is a good way to learn, especially if it fun. The same is true with creating a drawing. A young child may not know how to draw a complex image in the beginning, but if they see it broken down in clear examples in books or from their parents eventually they will get it. In other words having simple but effective lessons around for the younger child to color and draw is more desirable then just plan coloring. Just coloring does not teach a skill.
