Metal Winner In Painting Italian Biennial 2001

Since seven, I found myself exploring the visual world in a way that was close to my heart. It seemed I could not stop making objects, inventing things, drawing and painting. This was during a time when the United States was on the path to humanistic freedoms that the world has never seen. It was unstoppable and opened up ideas that we where independent thinkers and the world was what we make it.

I grew up taking on a lot of responsibility staying in the Army for 8 years, attending art schools, studying under artists and starting several businesses not necessarily in that order. While I was attending College I belonged to a couple of local galleries and had art shows a couple times a year. I was prolific and began to create a name for myself. In 1974 I thought it would be a great idea to start an art school so young and old students could create art just like real artists. The Front gallery was also created to give students a real gallery space to show their work. After 10 years the student rate increased to over 20 students a week. During this period, I started another gallery called the L&B Gallery and began to invite artists from all over the country to have shows.

In 2000, I went to Italy, attended the Florence Biennial, and received a gold metal in painting. Previously I showed my work in group shows at the Portland Art Museum, Schneider Art Museum, and The Tacoma Art Museum. I have sold artwork in galleries located across Oregon and the east coast New York down to Florida.

After 30 years of teaching and a thousand students I still am in the studio teaching students how to draw, paint, sculpt, and print make.  Today it is a privilege for me to teach all ages how to make art and understand their creativity has no boundaries.
